Gulmarg, Nov 20 (KNO): The Cooperative Department held a divisional level event in Gulmarg as part of the 72nd All India Cooperative Week. The programme brought together representatives and officers from across Jammu and Kashmir.
Commissioner Secretary, Cooperative Department, Babila Rakwal, as per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) presided over the event as the chief guest.
Senior officials, including Registrar Cooperative Societies J and K Mohammad Shafi Chak, Special Secretary Cooperative Department, Joint Registrar Audit Kashmir, CEO Gulmarg Development Authority and Deputy Registrars from all Kashmir districts, joined the programme.
Cooperative Societies displayed products at an exhibition that showed the sector’s growing activity. Cultural performances and a felicitation ceremony were also part of the event.
The Joint Registrar Audit Kashmir said cooperatives support livelihoods and community development across the region.
The Commissioner Secretary said the government is strengthening the cooperative sector through reforms, digital tools, and capacity building. She cited progress in Food Processing Units, Farmer Producer Organisations, and efforts to revive Super Bazars. She said District Level Federations are improving institutional support.
She urged Cooperative Societies to diversify into food processing, agri value chains, and rural enterprise development. She called for stronger youth and women participation.
The programme concluded with a pledge to expand the cooperative movement in Jammu and Kashmir and improve its role in local economic growth—(KNO)
